This cylinder recording, issued in 1915, is listed on the WorldCatalogue of library holdings. It was issued by "Edison Phonograph Monthly", volume 13 and published by Edison Blue Amberol 2688. The recording is about 4 minutes long. I do not have this in my collection but an MP3 of it may be found at the website for the Cylinder Preservation and Digitization Project.
The song is performed with an orchestra and stirringly sung by tenor Reed Miller. The side drum is prevalent in the music (appropriately), and the orchestra consists of the usual wind-brass ensemble. I do not know of any other recording of this song, but a new one will certainly have a challenge trying to better this one.
